The path to the CPL(H) licence

Entry requirements

To enrol on the CPL(H) course, the applicant must already hold a valid PPL(H) licence. Before commencing the practical training phase, a minimum of 155 total flight hours on helicopters must have been logged, of which at least 50 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC), including 10 hours of cross-country navigation.

Medical certificate

For the CPL(H), the applicant must hold a valid EASA-FCL Class 1 Medical Certificate, issued by an authorised Aeromedical Examiner (AME). A Class 2 Medical Certificate is not sufficient for this licence. We recommend verifying your medical fitness before commencing training.

Theoretical training

Prior to the practical tests, the applicant must have passed all ATPL or CPL(H) Theoretical Knowledge Examinations. The programme covers the subjects required under EASA regulations: air law, meteorology, navigation, aircraft performance, flight planning, human performance, radio communications, and aircraft systems knowledge. Classes may be followed via distance learning on an online platform or in person with individual self-study.

Practical training

The course requires a minimum of 30 hours of dual instruction with a qualified flight instructor. The programme is designed to consolidate the advanced piloting skills, emergency management, and operational procedures required of a professional pilot.

Night rating

The CPL(H) training path mandatorily includes at least 5 hours of night flight training. This rating is an integral part of the commercial licence and qualifies you to operate in low-light conditions, significantly broadening your employment prospects in the sector.

Skill test

The applicant must be at least 18 years of age to sit the skill test. Upon completion of the training course, a skill test must be passed before an authorised Flight Examiner. The test must be completed within 6 months of the end of the instruction period. Once passed, you will be issued the CPL(H) licence, recognised and valid in all countries of the European Union.
